It’s doing that whole “auction can’t end unless there’s 2 mins of no bids ” thing and has gone from about $170k to $290k during those extensions

Beautiful car. Not sure it’s worth that much money, but really how many of these are out there in this condition?
What’s the deal with the plastics in this car? I don’t remember that being an OEM color.

That’s a lot of clams for the abi lity to tell people it’s all original.

That’s about the best looking original Z I can imagine, super colors. Crazy money, but as they say, find another like it. Just wait for the flood of Z’s on BAT and Craigslist now, it’s interesting to watch that after certain models set a new bar.

RIP me ever owning one. Damn.

I’m sitting on a goddamn gold mine here. Of coarse my car has>100, 000 miles and some little dings. But it’s ALL ORIGINAL. And a 10/70 build date.

You bought one back when they were new, forced to sell it, and never really got over it. Fast forward 40 years and you’ve got a few million in the bank account and you don’t care you have to have a pristine one.

Really? I’m team 240. But then, I have a Miata that has a LSD and factory big brake kit, but not ABS , traction control, or stability control. I've apparently become an old car snob, even though mine was made in 2000 as a 2001 model

I LOVE THE 240Z BUT GOD DAMN MOFO THAT’S AN INSANE FUCKING PRICE.

I’ll trade you my Z for your V10 M5? Oh wait I can afford to maintain my Z and not an M5, never mind.

WHAT A DEAL!!!
I’ll add this to ‘List of Things I Hate About This Hobby’

I jest, I can’t afford to drive a 997 turbo. I can aff ord to drive and maintain the 240z tho.I love the car, it absolutely puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

M5, Lotus Carlton, or 500E. Would love one of those for a 4door family car.

Here, how about this one for 1/10 the price.
Same color, a claimed 62k miles. I’d take it and keep $280,000 in my pocket. BaT is becoming ridiculous. And people taking these extravagant sale prices as proof of value for autos is as boneheaded as people paying $310K for a Datsun. One sale doesn’t make a market.

![]() 01/29/2020 at 15:17 |

But put your car on BaT with a $250,000 reserve, and you could afford to own a 997 turbo and drive it, right?
![]() 01/29/2020 at 15:20 |

I’ll be the devil on your shoulder telling you to ‘do it’ anytime you want.
![]() 01/29/2020 at 15:22 |

Two people clearly thought the car was museum quality, and you can’t put a price on that especially for something as historically important as a 240. The BaT guys have been saying if you’re not on the bus with a 240 fixer it might be too late. They see serious E-Type upside within a year or two, and now they finally have something to back that up.

Just wow.

Back in college I had a ‘79 280ZX. I now know that while the 240/260/280 were real sports cars, the ZX was more of a sport grand tourer. Knowing that, and remembering how fun the ZX was to drive, I’d love to hav e of the previous models because I’m sure they are even better . Now I fear the prices are going to skyrocket and it’s just never going to happen.
![]() 01/29/2020 at 15:30 |

I could buy a 997 turbo and pay off my mortgage at that price.
![]() 01/29/2020 at 15:48 |

They are incredibly rare in original condition, the cars are made from very cheap materials and are now 50 years old.. . I think the previous sale high was around $70k for a very special car. Not sure what is up with the plastic on the seat belt but overall I’m astounded that the seats are not rotted away like my car.
![]() 01/29/2020 at 15:57 |
|
If it’s really a 70 / 71 Series 1 all original in a manual I mean check the results looks like even at those mileages should be a solid $30-50k if it’s in good shape. I’m sure BaT would love to hear from you at the moment
![]() 01/29/2020 at 16:00 |

Get a ‘72 the numbers matching crowd only wants a ‘70-‘71
![]() 01/29/2020 at 16:02 |
|
If I was starting a museum of cars or a serious concours collection I could think of a lot worse first acquisitions than an all-original pristine example of the first sports car to ever come out of japan
![]() 01/29/2020 at 16:04 |
|
It’s only the 70-71 240’s with the standard numbers matching nonsense that get to way-the-fuck up there prices. Get a 260z for like $5k paint it and dump a SR20 or RB25 in there. You’ll forget all about the perfect 240.
![]() 01/29/2020 at 16:11 |
|
Well good, that’s way more reasonable. I don’t give a rip about original paint/numbers matching. S omeday maybe, then. :)
![]() 01/29/2020 at 16:23 |

Oh, no doubt it’s exceedingly rare. I love all of the Z cars, even the bloated (by some people’s standards) 280. I haven’t seen a 240 in years on the east coast.
My neighbor growing up was a service advisor for a Nissan dealer. He had quite a few Z's over the years.

I think BaT is occasionally used as a money laundering front.

I don’t argue they should go up in value, this high number will only increase those driver quality cars you and I want. “One just sold for 300k, so give me 50k for my 240z. It merely needs floor pans and a paint job and you too will have a 300k car!”
